Description: Written for clarinet, violin, and cello, "Trances" is a theme and variations piece inspired by a series of meditations I experienced. Within the trances, I was told that I had been singing. Intrigued, I managed to record myself trance-singing once, and from the initial melody of that recording came the birth of "Trances". This recording is a bit rough, including two wrong notes, and is generally under tempo (the players only rehearsed twice). The piece was written for a composition class I was taking, so obtaining a professional recording wasn't the goal.
Other compositions:
"Tru"
"Tru," for solo flute, was my first composition; written for the same class as "Trances" in the spring of 2006. "Tru," Norwegian for "belief" or "faith," was written as a reflection of my own spiritual reality. It was recorded at my university's New Music concert on Feb. 25th, 2007, played by Daniel Schirmer. (Recording coming soon!)
